Nanofactory Animation

A nanofactory is a proposed system in which nanomachines (resembling molecular assemblers, or industrial robot arms) would combine molecules to build larger atomically precise parts. These, in turn, would be assembled by positioning mechanisms of assorted sizes to build macroscopic (visible) but still atomically-precise products. A functioning nanofactory could create virtually any product at the cost of only the input raw material and energy.

Michio Kaku speaks with FOX News about MIT’s recent development of a new virus built battery capable of powering cars and other electronic devices. The holy grail of manufacturing is to create a molecular factory that is using viruses and molecules to cut-splice & dice other molecules to create Computers, Laptops, Transistors & Batteries. Now, They reprogrammed a virus to do Exactly That!

Welcome to Molecular Manufacturing News. This website provides those interested with interesting molecular manufacturing videos, educational nanotech articles, and everyday conversation about what’s going on in nanotechnology. A nanofactory is a proposed system in which nanomachines would combine reactive molecules via mechanosynthesis to build larger atomically precise parts. These, in turn, would be assembled by positioning mechanisms of assorted sizes to build macroscopic (visible) but still atomically-precise products.

In 2005, a computer-animated short film of the nanofactory concept was produced by John Burch, in collaboration with Eric Drexler. Such visions have been the subject of much debate, on several intellectual levels. There lies in such molecular manufacturing technology such immense power, that the race is on within the world’s most technologically advanced countries and their defense and university research arms, that some futurists predict that advanced molecular manufaturing, as depicted in the video below, will come quite soon – possibly within 10 years.
